We all know some Type "A"s. My husband happens to live with one (or quite possibly 3-poor guy!) How on earth do you show a Type A you love 'em? I've been pondering this very thing lately and here are a few ideas:
1. Spell their name correctly.
2. Pay attention to detail.
3. Remember and acknowledge their birthday.
4. Clean up after yourself and if you really want to gain some bonus points, do something totally crazy intricate like dust the blinds and then emphasize profusely how you just happened to notice how dirty they were and that it really needed to be done.
5. Be early or on time.
6. When giving an award for years of service, aim to give it within that year you are honoring. It loses its meaning (slightly) if you hang onto it for an additional year.
7. If you forget something important, apologize, apologize, apologize and then it's probably a good idea to admit you are wrong. Trying to make up for an omission only makes it worse.
8. Notice the little things like a haircut or a toenail polish change (ok, the latter might be a bit excessive but you get the picture...)
9. Listen attentively. You're busted if you make them repeat themselves!
I'm sure there are a gazillion other ways but these are what came to my mind first. Now how do you love a Type "B"? You Type Bs, do fill me in because I think I live with one (although he claims to be a type "C")!
I was never really sure what Type A even meant but after reading this I guess I must be one of them!
ReplyDeleteThis may be longer than what you had in mind for a response, but I was inspired. Type "C"
ReplyDelete1. Be spontaneous and ready for anything
2. Don't worry if the plan changes a bunch of times
3. Call if you are running late but don't worry about too much we are probably both running late and hoping we will there at the same time anyway
4. Call just to say hi and if you happen to just stop by unannounced, even better
5. Clean up what ever mess there is that who knows who left because it always looks better clean but who knows when we will get to it
6. volunteer information, we love to know what is going on but forget to ask, and really do care
7. Follow up any future plans with e-mails or reminders or both, we might forget by the time we get to somewhere to write it down
8. Know that you are deeply loved and that we enjoy spending time, doing activities together, and only wish we could do those fun things more often
9. Don't be afraid to go deep, be vulnerable , be real
10. This list was really hard for a type "c" person to write
Sounds like you are living with a male of the species!!! Enjoy it.
